Solicitors
Our forensic psychology team provides a wide range of services to Solicitors including criminal and traffic forensic reports and assessment for compensation matters.
As psychologists running a busy practice we understand only too well the problems you have in chasing up clients, trying to collect fees for reports, making appointments, and waiting for the report. The aim of our practice is to carry out the work as promptly, efficiently and effectively as possible and to fully manage the process at all times, leaving you free to do the legal work.
We provide comprehensive and accurate assessments
All of our assessments involve a comprehensive semi-structured clinical/forensic interview, as well as the administration of a range of appropriate psychometric instruments to ensure that our reports are credible, reliable, honest and fair. We constantly update our assessments in order to take advantage of the most useful and appropriate assessments currently available. We also keep our skills updated to ensure that we keep abreast of the latest developments in all of the areas in which we practice.
We offer treatment for your client
As well as providing assessments and preparing reports, we offer psychological treatment for clients involved with the criminal justice or compensation court systems, focusing on underlying factors hindering rehabilitation or contributing to offending behaviour. For those facing criminal charges this treatment is also aimed at changing attitudes and behaviours and/or gaining a greater level of emotional control. Obviously this may then assist them with their current court case as well as reducing their chances of recidivism. Our individualised Anger Management Program is one of the treatment options. This has been described below.
Anger Management
The Anger Management Program is a 12-module individual course of treatment and each of these modules is conducted over a period of one hour and each of these is conducted on a one-on-one basis.
This program involves a combination of highly structured Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques, combined with motivational techniques and exercises designed for intensive training of new attitudes, thought patterns and behaviours.
The aim of the course is to enable the person to learn how to control their anger and to have the necessary skills and practice to be able to put these methods into action. It is a structured program that can be carried out pre- and post-sentencing, it is a brief intervention or emotional effectiveness and effective communication and conflict resolution training. This is reinforced by exercises that are designed to increase the person's level of motivation, their awareness of alternative strategies, and the skills to put all of these into practice.
The program includes several methods of control of anger and each of these interact with each of the others to make a comprehensive and effective, yet individualised, planned pattern of behaviour. The person is assisted to design their own plan of action that they can utilise to reduce their tendency to become angry and to control it if it happens. It also includes skills such as assertiveness training and building relationships that are designed to reduce the likelihood of anger and to develop the person’s environment to make it more conducive to the resolution of issues that may lead to anger.
This program is useful for angry and aggressive employees and people facing charges of assault and/or who have a court order to attend an anger management course. If the person needs it we will also supply a letter to their Solicitor for their sentencing or to satisfy the conditions of their sentence.
